How Often Should Your Furnace Be Maintained in Abbotsford?

Once a year is the standard for most homes, and the best time to book is early fall, before you start relying on your heat every day. Abbotsford winters can bring sharp cold snaps and snow when outflow winds come down the Fraser Valley, and that is exactly when a neglected furnace is most likely to fail.

A few situations call for closer attention:

Older furnaces: If your system is more than 10 to 15 years old, an annual tune up becomes even more important for catching worn parts before they cause a breakdown.
Pets, allergies or renovations: Check your filter every month or two, since dust and dander clog filters faster and restrict airflow.
Dual fuel systems: If your furnace works alongside a heat pump, both pieces of equipment should be serviced each year.
Warranty coverage: Many manufacturers require proof of regular professional maintenance to keep your warranty valid.

Signs Your Furnace Needs a Tune Up

Your furnace usually gives you warning before it breaks down. Book a tune up if you notice any of the following:

Rising gas bills without a change in how you use your heat
Uneven heating, with some rooms noticeably colder than others
Short cycling, where the furnace turns on and off more often than usual
New noises such as banging, rattling, squealing or humming
A yellow or flickering burner flame instead of a steady blue one
More dust around the house or drier indoor air
Weak airflow from your vents, or a furnace that runs constantly to keep up

If our technician finds a problem during your tune up, we will explain it and give you a clear quote before any furnace repair work begins. If your system is near the end of its life, we can also walk you through furnace replacement options.
