Air Handler
A component of the HVAC system responsible for circulating conditioned air throughout a building. It contains a blower, heating or cooling elements, and filters.

    SEER
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. A measure of the cooling efficiency of an air conditioner or heat pump. Higher SEER ratings indicate greater energy efficiency.

    AFUE
Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. A measure of a furnace’s heating efficiency. It represents the percentage of fuel converted into heat.

    BTU
British Thermal Unit. A unit of measurement for heat. It represents the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.

    Refrigerant
A fluid used in HVAC systems to transfer heat during the cooling and heating process. Common refrigerants include R-22 and R-410A.

    Heat Pump
A device that provides heating and cooling by transferring heat between the indoors and outdoors.

    Ductwork
The system of ducts that distributes heated or cooled air throughout a building.

    Thermostat
A device used to control the temperature of an indoor space by activating the HVAC system.

    Evaporator Coil
The part of the air conditioning system where the refrigerant absorbs heat from indoor air, causing the air to cool.

    Condenser Coil
The outdoor component of an air conditioning system where the refrigerant releases absorbed heat to the outside air.
